Tatum, Edward Lawrie (1909-1975)
    

American biochemist born in Boulder, Colorado. He shared the 1958 Nobel prize in medicine and physiology with Beadle and Lederberg for concluding that the characteristic function of the gene Eric Weisstein's World of Chemistry was to control the synthesis of a particular enzyme.
