Sean Matt's Thesis

The Influence of Poloidal Magnetic Fields on Astrophysical Outflows

My thesis research consisted of developing magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) models (via extensive use of numerical simulations) to explain the launching and shaping of various astrophysical outflows. In particular, I focused on a model for equatorially concentrated winds from AGB stars to explain the shapes of planetary nebulae (PNe) and a model for launching jets and outflows from young stellar objects (YSO's).

My committee members and collaborators included Robert Winglee (supervisor), Anthony Goodson, Bruce Balick, and Karl-Heinz Bohm.
