Shadowlove

Winter grips the frozen land
Alone dwell man and woman

In vain his wife did pray him
from the hunt at home to stay
'Twas then she got the necklace,
	'twas then the stranger came

"You are the one, you are my soul
You are my love, forevermore
The endless sky, our home shall make
When darkness falls, we shall awake"

Calling for her to go with him
Afraid, she chooses to stay within

At length the stranger left her,
	soon the husband did return
'Twas then he smashed the necklace,
	'twas then his anger burned

"Out into the darkness fled,
	sylvan walls and snow-made bed,
By the moon I still can see
him standing there, he calls to me
Up into the starry sky,
son of Moon and new-found bride
Forever shall we rule the eve,
as shadow-wife and son of dreams"

Still, winter grips the frozen wood
There still he dwells, alone he broods
In sorrow turned to wolfen form
And still to moon for lost bride calls

By the Light of a Winter's Moon

Ro gab uacht etti en
Aigre re e mo scel

'Twas late one autumn evening
	when the traveler did arrive
A wizened old man
with blue-grey wisdom in his eyes
Down he sat, by the fire
	and sipped at spiced ale
Pulled his cloak close about him
	so began his tale

By fallen oak, beneath the sky
The eldest sleeping giants lie
And on their graves they're dancing still
With mortal dreams beneath the hills

When I was young, one winter morn I came upon
A barrow in the forest which seemed as old as moon and sun

Nine times 'round the ancient hill
Willows watching silent, still
  the light is fading

Another world behind our own
Which my mortal eyes beheld

Never before had I beheld such sylvan grace
What dreams compare with the magic of this place?
Forgotten beauty of the gods we know no more
Which haunt the forests and hills forevermore

Behind the wind you cannot see
The secrets of eternity
But with the sight you too shall know
The dreams of men and which way blows the wind

With sylph-like graces the dance among
The eldest pines, by golden sun

Would you live forever within this place?
'Tis not true, you cannot be
To dance beneath the moon and darkness embrace
What madness this has come to me?
You shall be the last to come to our world
When Wayland forged my mortal soul
Our court is growing weak and shall not return
'Twas not meant that I should know

"My staff has giants killed,
my bag a long knife carries
To cut meat-pies from children's thighs
and feed them to the fairies"
Thus The Rhymer spoke to me as Oberon sat watching
The mortal ones drink silver blood,
their lives so briefly passing into night

And so it was they left me,
	to meet again nevermore
And somehow my soul now empty,
as though I had seen not before
The time of their passing has come,
	to live among men nevermore
But still their music haunts me,
	and so shall be evermore

By the fires dying embers so his tale concludes
In the stillness of nightfall,
by the light of a cold winter's moon

At the Temple of Artemis / The Forever Dream
	by Dave Belliville

Villages below me wait
As moonlight fills the nighttime sky
Melding with the night -- my mate,
Part of the ancient darkness, I

I have watched while weary walls
Recede from palace to decay
Every night the hunger calls,
Seducing me 'til break of day

Neath Mountain Sleep

When dragons danced among the hills
And wretched wights were walking still
A legend born onto the one
The wizard came to claim her son
A sovereign right in blood preserved
The sword and stone to seal the word
Like wind-kept secrets whispered o'er
So too shall live forevermore

By the crimson setting sun in the icy autumn air
The king stands waiting, watching nature's sylvan tears
Upon the water play, set like multicolored jewels
By the fading light of day

Lo! Behold the sword of kings the lady does wield
Of which the willows sing by harvest moon to barren fields

Honor is my life
Show unto the world your destiny
	  and lead the way
Wits be my guide
Bring unto the world so they may see
	  where shadows play
I shall not fall
'Tis both kings and beggars destiny:
	  to Death shall fall

Then Death shall die

So Death he found, in battle met
A struggle which likes shall ne'er be seen
For thirteen moons their weapons set
Yet to eithers vantage none could see
The forest gawked and the Sidh did watch
To see who would the victor be

'Twas wyrds way that on that day Death began to tire
Mercy he did cry to be spared immortal fire

Mercy plea cannot ignore
So Death goes free to hunt once more

So it was that Death was nigh destroyed
And the king he lived on
And let to roam free
To bring order to the land
When goblins still hunted
	And his name carried o're
And the moon mothered dreams
'Til to Death he fell at last

When dragons danced aming the hills
And wretched wights were walking still
A legend born unto the one
The wizard came to claim her son
Alone he sleeps in earthen womb
The forest floor his silken tomb
By trumpet call, so legend says
One day to rise once again

A Midsummer's Dance (Instrumental)

Odin's Ride

Bitter the winds, winter winds, freeze the earth
Empty the sky frozen by winter's frost
Strong is the sea taught to be by the wind
So lead the hearts, father of all of men

In the olden days, when the earth was young,
the one-eyed god, upon his throne
Set out to ride across the sky
to see what courage men would find

Let brave men live among the gods
By white-armed Valkyrs carried o'er
The battlefield to hero's home
To where their honor shall be done

So out he rides to heavens hunt, The Huntsman comes

The mortals stare in wonder at the mighty host
And their mortal blood begins to warm
with the passion they had lost

North winds calling, live young forever
	mortal fears pass away
Seasons of ice shall not chill a warrior's blood
	valiant ones shall be saved

True warriors, come to me live eternal in this land
My kingdom, you shall see what becomes of a life
	with a glorious end
What wonders shall behold by the setting of the sun
Your virtue honored here while the men on the earth
sing the deeds you have done
Dark visions shall haunt the living ones
Whom hide in cowardice as you drink with the gods
	from your enemies skull
Ethereal splendors be thy bride
Each morning born again, in the greyness of dawn
	into battle you ride

So men did hear him, their armour they donned
Set down their plows and lifted their swords
For glory and honor they set out to fight
To see who'd be taken with glory that night

And the bravest were taken, as had been foretold
To feast each evening, each day to fight again

Soon the men forgot the courage that their father brought
	unto them that night
They took the plow again, from disease and age to die instead
without hope of deeds in battle done

So to this day heroes in the heavens play
Watching the world, waiting for our courage to return

Evening Sun

Dreams bourne up by the breath of the moon
And bathed in silvery light
Asleep are her children lying upon beds of stone
Where stands the silent and still whispering ones

Beware the beast with a thousand eyes
and yet we are safe here for it is blind
Shadows play, the time has come
to dance to the tune of the Evening Sun

Enthralled, blue and green dance with white
Within the colour of black, endless night
Watched by wishes and dreams long since past
And turn, spinning in thrice, without rest

Amidst each river and sylvan glen
are creatures far wiser, unknown to men
Gods of old, in ancient tounge
pipe out the tune of the Evening Sun

That which was before shall be again
And still lives between stars and within
The mountains, where it awaits all our fears
And that which is never seen, ever near

Far stranger moons have seen the sky
when shadows were walking and could not die
Dance with spirits with silver blood
the Dragon is sleeping, but not undone
Lament the fallen moon
with vanity swollen the Dragon's womb
Shadows whisper, your time will come
to dance to the tune of the Evening Sun

Intro

"In those strange old times, when fantastic dreams and madmen's
reveries were realized among the actual circumstances of life,
two persons met together at an appointed hour and place..."

From 'The Hollow of the Three Hills'
				by Nathaniel Hawthorne

Hollow of the Three Hills

"Sorrow fills my heart with a weight I cannot away
Speak to me of the land whence I came and the fate
Of the ones I have lost forevermore
Give me this news, though I sleep forevermore"

The chill beauty of an autumnal sunset falls
O'er these three hills twixt which the hollow forms
Here, two persons meet, one a lady young and fair
And an aged crone, withered with despair

"Not from my lips, mayst thou here the news you seek
But sit by this stagnant pool, as my spell is weaved"

The wind turns to whispers of an aged man and his dying bride
They speak of a daughter who brought them shame and sorrow
Till the day they die

The vision then dwindles to the air from which it formed
The voices melt, and the sound returns
Of the wind sweeping mournfully through the autumn leaves
And the lady still is kneeling in the hollow between the three

The sun is lost behind the trees, darkness grows ever near
"Cover thy face quickly, we've yet much more to hear"

Once more the hag weaves her spell
Again the voices rise to bring their tidings to the dell
Cries of mirth and sorrow mix to form a raging sea
In which one solemn voice speaks of his wife's perfidy

Even as he spoke, his voice was lost behind the chaos
Of laughter and tortured cries, in misery forevermore

The wind flows once more across the hollow's floor
"There is one more I'd hear,"
"Then sit, for night draws near"

The ancient prayer twists once more beneath the spell
And in the distance grows the knelling of a bell
The wind gently shakes the edges of the coffin pall
The mourners whisper against the one who left her child

Sadly round the hollows verge the wind blows
Where the witch cackles and the lady lies cold

The Winds of the Earth

Darkness falls as the pale light drapes o'er the silent earth
Dying shadows wither, into nothing they return
No heat is cast from a fading sun, just an eerie glow of red
The wind stirs through the forest to awaken me from my slumber once again

Slowly I rise into the autumn air, leaving my grave behind
I now behold the fading land, doomed to wither and die,
For the sun shall never arise...

The features of the earth cast their solemn stare
As I begin my passage to the lair
Where no mortal shall ever lay his eyes,
To the boundless reaches beyond the sky

Light drifts away to other lands, destiny takes hold my soul in unseen hands
Soaring o'er the sleeping earth, which waits in darkness for my return
An endless sea of hidden worlds lies in front of me
And cosmic tides sing the song of what's been and what's to be

Giants wander an endless path, captives of the sun,
So shall it be till fates release into nevermore
Shall I find my destiny within this sea of eternity?
Heaven eludes my wandering soul, which cries for peace in the hall of gods

Hope guides my hand through the darkness before me
And angels call my name from the shores of forever

Light flows into nothingness,
Consumed by the great darkness in the sky
A flowing sorrow, imbibing life into its somber depths,
It calls for my lost soul

A swirling mass of crystal light fails in forever,
A peaceful, silent flicker within the never
A thousand barren worlds doth cry in a spiritless, astral sleep,
Forgotten in the never-ending sea

Along the web of wyrd, I travel to my fate
Back to my earthen tomb, where my icy stone awaits
O' never shall sun the morrow see
When I find undying paradise and my eternity...

Mourn the Sunrise

Morning fills the autumn air, mist retreats my sylvan lair
Sunlight warms this ancient wood, the melody of life renewed
Whispers haunt the winds of the forest and the depths of my heart
Mystic dreams call out from the hollows and murmuring streams
The splendor of the dawn pervades, deep within the mountain shade
Casting its unearthly spell till blessed eve retells its tale
Tranquil skies cover the heavens and tears in my eyes
On this knoll I sit 'neath the limbs of a dark, brooding oak
Whispers haunt the shadowy eve and the depths of my heart
Mystic dreams call out from the heavens and eternity...

In Death's Shadow

Seas of light ebb away, forms of figures melt away
The timeless night rises once more, illumination withers, dead evermore

Evoke the gloom, dwell among the immortal ones
Sleep endlessly, the land overcast in misery
See the ones who dwell without the sun, frozen in their sorrow

The dawn is dead, so rises our world, forsaken life without a soul
For countless ages, devoid of hope to exist within the world
In evening rise, when all life sleeps, dead for eternity
Left to suffer in dismal woe

Summon the lost ones, recall them from beyond the gates
To the sphere of reality
Wither away in silent kingdoms lost from day
In the bleak domain life cannot see

Obscured in this hidden layer, spiritless realm of forgotten lore
No way to save our souls, dwindle away to nevermore
Undying lands that I can see, clouded for eternity
Frigid with unending woe of the ones who can only hope to be
Stagnant decay, in the empire of the forgotten, dreams fade away

Darkness fades as the light breaks anew
Shadows die as the brilliance shines through
These miserable creatures fade with the gloom
Awaiting their time for once more to rule

Obscured in this hidden lair, spiritless realm of forgotten lore
No way to save our souls, dwindle away to nevermore
Forever lurking in death's shadow, eternal sorrow of the eve
Never to awaken, never to be free

Nevermore

Dying trees reach towards the lifeless sky
Ancient, twisted figures, await their time to die
Hills roll on forever, misery fills the air
Here the gods of yesterday rot in their despair

Centuries lie forgotten in this land of bitter cold
The silent dead surround me as I suffer all alone
See the crystal darkness, my soul is locked within
I am not alive or dead, I simply do not exist

I dwell in this forest of faceless souls
Draining all life which dares to behold
The bleak, lifeless landscape, shrouded in gray
Covered in mist to block out the day

Hallows old conceal, the pain which cannot die
Separate from reality, frozen into time
Why am I forever damned to live amongst the trees?
Release me from this agony through eternal sleep

Only a shadow realm, forgotten by time
Lost in sorrow, not dead yet not alive
Victim of the forest, like thousands before
Trapped forever, I sleep nevermore

The Autumn King

My heart grows weary of traveling o'er forsaken lands, twisted and dark
I long to see my home once more, and soon, by fate, I shall return
Cataracts did haunt me as I roamed through lands so cold
The winds spoke through the trees and vowed that I would return...

"Life shall save the autumn king, unburdened by mortality
When shines bright the crystal moon, to his throne he shall return"

Thy peace now before me, I return
I feel it grow nearer, and smell the home-fires burning
Smoke wafts towards the sky
Like fallen angels by the sun's dying light

Twilight hangs in the autumn sky, pines silhouette the eve
Their dark figures ride the edge of eternity
My fate to be, my destiny, a story told since ages old

Moonlight filters through the trees, it climbs the sky on ancient wings
Locked in its ethereal tomb, its light guiding my return

My home draws nearer as darkness drops its pall
Winter winds blow through the paling fall
Shadows play on my heart, of memories old and worn
Of times when I dwelt where I now return

Peace now fills my tired soul, mortal cares no longer known
My heart is free from winter's cold grasp, the dawn of forever is at hand

"Sit atop your oaken throne and rule the eve forevermore
Sleep and dream, 'o mighty king, for here ends your suffering
Ancient dreams haunt the shade, and in the shadows mortals play
Here shall dwell your court divine, immortal past the end of time"

Fall plays in the cool air, and burn the fires sweet
Of my lair, free from sorrow, where we live, alone
Within forever's boundless walls, and the moon hangs in the sky
Crystal, forever, destined never to die

"Autumn reigns forever, in the vale of kings
Where the moon casts its spell, unbroken,
Where the eve's soft breezes sing"

So Sleeps the Dawn

The past fades to nothing, consumed by eternity
The future to drown in sorrow, and return to obscurity

I can save your timeless soul, you shall live beyond the world
In eternal lands with endless seas, beyond what is mortality
Hear forever calling, far away, from the sea of darkness arises immortality
Above the realm of passing time, where we are never to die

"Take me from this mortal plane, to eternity
Where our hearts shall live as one in immortal eve..."

Lay down and sleep, and forever you shall dream
Of life without end, to be frozen for all time to be

Slowly flowing streams of red caress your soft white flesh
The life drains from your body and your soul is laid to rest
Silent in your slumber, now a rose frozen in time
And together we shall live amongst the heavens o'er the sky

Save the one, so that we may live together in a land without the sun
Upon our love shall arise a world without need of flesh and blood
Let me close your eyes and together we shall fly away
To a land of crystal forests, silent, still, without decay

I feel the warmth slowly draining from your flesh
Your souls takes flight among the stars in endlessness
Your beauty cast o'er boundless spans, like a shadow
We'll dwell together in the land of tomorrow

Now I lay to sleep so that we may live among the gods
So sleeps the dawn, in crystal form, frozen still forevermore
