GRADES

Grades for this class are available on a password-protected web site maintained by the Department of Astronomy. The site is located at:

http://www.astro.virginia.edu/class/grade-login.php

Your login name on this site will be your UVa/ITC-assigned email/login ID. You will be asked to select a password when you first log on to the site. (Note: this site is not associated with the Instructional Toolkit, and your Toolkit password will not work.)

Grades will be updated every couple of weeks, as work is graded.

FINAL GRADES POSTED

  1. All work has now been graded.

  2. The mean score on the Final Exam was 184/225 (82%).

  3. There were 629 points possible on the three examinations, 25 points possible on the Constellation Quiz ("CQ"), and 46 points possible on the in-class Puzzlahs ("PZ"), for a maximum possible score of 700.

  4. If you did any of the optional laboratories, then you received extra credit (labeled "XC" on the grade web site) equal to the sum of the points achieved on the labs.

  5. "TOT" is the combined score on all your work. It equals M1+M2+FX+PZ+CQ+XC.

  6. The final letter grades are curved, as explained on the syllabus. The grade breaks for A-, B-, and C- were set at TOT values of 638, 580, and 480, respectively. The A- and C- breaks were adjusted downward from the guaranteed values announced at the beginning of the semester.

  7. You may look over your final exams in my office, but I am required to keep the papers.

Have a great summer! ---- R. W. O'Connell
