Standing Between Giants
Here several graduate and undergraduate students in
Steve Majewski's
Astronomical Techniques
class stand on the main platform of the
Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) at
Mt. Graham Observatory
in Arizona. Also visible are the two 8.4-m mirrors that make it the most
advanced optical ground-based telescope in the world. The LBT is just one of many
telescope facilities UVa has direct access to
in New Mexico and Arizona, including the nearby
Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope,
and the 10-m Submillimeter Telescope also located on Mt. Graham.
