Opening September 1 and running through November, 2000, the Leander McCormick Observatory is presenting an exhibition of the stereoscopic art of Boris Starosta, entitled TECHNOBOT 2000. Over twenty anaglyph art prints, posters, and phantograms will be on display. The three dimensional imagery includes computer generated fantasies, sports action, nature, portraits, and stereo photographic abstractions.

This broad range of imagery is testimony to Starosta's versatile experimentation with fine art stereoscopic imaging. He has introduced new techniques into the somewhat esoteric and technical field of 3D photography. Consequently, his images have been recognized with awards in international stereoscopic exhibitions, and he has published several articles in the stereoscopic and popular photography press describing his 3-d computer techniques.

Of his works in the anaglyph medium, Mr. Starosta says, "I am excited about anaglyphs for several reasons. Firstly, they are the lowest cost and most accessible stereoscopic medium. They can be mounted and displayed like any other art print and by virtue of the simplicity of the anaglyph viewer, their three dimensionality is easily perceived. The anaglyph print offers the additional challenge of two viewing modes: 'flat' and stereoscopic (using 3D glasses). I am exploring the creation of images that succeed in either mode."

The exhibit will be open during the Observatory's regular public night hours.
