The National Headquarters of the NRAO and the North American ALMA Science Center are located in Stone Hall on the UVa grounds, a short walk from the Astronomy Building. In addition, the NRAO Technology Center is also located in Charlottesville. There is close collaboration with NRAO staff on research and instrumentation development. Many members of the NRAO scientific staff have Adjunct Faculty appointments in the Astronomy Department, we share colloquia and lunch talk series, and graduate students often pursue research under the supervision of NRAO staff. NRAO’s Green Bank Observatory is located in the National Radio Quiet Zone in West Virginia, only 2.5 hours drive from UVa, and used regularly by UVa personnel.
