InGaAs Detector Development

Project overview:
We have established a collaboration with Sensors Unlimited, Inc. (Princeton, NJ) to develop Indium-Gallium-Arsenide (InGaAs) detectors suitable for ground-based astronomical applications. Sensors Unlimited specializes in InGaAs detector fabrication and research. We are currently operating on our second consecutive NSF ATI grant leading to the collaborative development of a 2.3 micron cutoff low dark current InGaAs array with dark currents competitive with ground-based backgrounds. Since InGaAs fabrication techniques are less costly than HgCdTe, such detectors have the potential to be more economical than HgCdTe arrays. For additional Information please e-mail Matt Nelson: mjn4n@virginia.edu.
