Attention: Craig L. Sarazin, Professor
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in
X-ray astronomy at the University of Virginia. The position will involve
the analysis of data from X-ray observations with Chandra, XMM/Newton,
Suzaku, and Swift, in collaboration with Craig Sarazin. The X-ray
observations will be focussed mainly on clusters of galaxies and elliptical
galaxies, but may also involve X-ray data on other classes of objects, such
as supernova remnants, globular clusters, X-ray binaries, or spiral
galaxies. The position may also involve the analysis of related optical,
radio, UV, or IR observations, or related theoretical work. It is likely
that a successful applicant will also collaborate on the preparation of
proposals for additional observations or theoretical modeling. The
position is initially for two years, with a possible extension for a third
year. I would like the post-doc to start in September 2011, although this
is negotiable.
Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a publication list, and a letter
outlining relevant interests and experience, and arrange to have three
letters of recommendation sent to the above address. Complete applications
should be received by January 14, 2011 for full consideration. Women and
minorities are encouraged to apply.
