IAU Colloquium No. 185

RADIAL AND NONRADIAL PULSATIONS AS PROBES OF STELLAR PHYSICS

26 - 31 July 2001, Leuven, Belgium

Dear Colleague,

With this message we are happy to announce our organisation of a conference on recent progress in the research domain of stellar pulsation. The basic topic of the conference is the potential of stellar pulsations as probes of the different physical processes that occur inside stars. Besides this main topic, the conference will also cover any other recent interesting research related to stellar pulsation.

This conference has received the status of colloquium of the IAU and is also supported financially by the Fund for Scientific Research of Flanders. It will start on Thursday 26 July at noon and will end on Tuesday 31 July in the afternoon. Sunday will be devoted to an excursion.

The meeting is dedicated to the Belgian astrophysicist Paul Ledoux, who made very significant contributions in the research area of nonradial pulsations.

The purpose of this First Announcement is to supply some general information about the conference and to allow interested astronomers to pre-register for the meeting. All the information, together with a pre-registration form, is also available at the web site

http://www.ster.kuleuven.ac.be/~iau185/

which will be updated regularly with the latest information on the conference. We have also opened an e-mail account

iau185@ster.kuleuven.ac.be

to which you can send the filled-in pre-registration form and pose any specific question about the conference. You can also write/call/fax to the chairwoman of the LOC:
