John 3:
  5. Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
  6. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
  7. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'
 17. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
 18. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

John 4:
 24. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

John 8:
 16. But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.

Peter I:
3:18 For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,
3:19 through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison
3:20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,

4:6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

4:11 If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.

Peter II:
3: 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

Ishiah 45:18
For this is what the LORD says-- he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited-- he says: "I am the LORD, and there is no other.

By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked:
Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. (Isaiah 45:23)

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. - Romans 8:16.

Edit /etc/sysconfig/harddisks and uncomment the line with USE_DMA=1.
This re-enables DMA which speed up my buffered disk reads by a factor of 5 (from 4 MB/sec to 20 MB/sec).
Use the "hdparm -T -t /dev/hda" command to check the performance if you are interested.

Check out Trib-Gel - its a Cold Welding Agent -and will readily join metal
parts as one part is forced or inserted into another - it is an alternative
to adhesives in many applications and it is much stronger. It gives instant
strength -it has no cure or cooling time -because it makes a genuine cold
pressure welds. You can read the story at www.tribtech.com. There are many
innovative assembly solutions illustrated in the application notes. This is
a new idea that innovators and inventors should be aware of.

For the first two images, I have removed cosmic rays from near the object, but not the entire image. There should be few if any cosmic rays in the third image.

Most data parameters of interest should be in the header. The gain in each image has been converted to 1. from an original 1.74. Readnoise is 10e.
The data is photometric with a photometric solution of:

What, then, was the purpose of the law?
It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come.
The law was put into effect through angels by a mediator. (Gal 3:19)

Install the RPMs. The commands needed are:
rpm --rebuild NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-1512.src.rpm
rpm -ivh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0.1512.i386.rpm

Edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file: Change the line containing Driver "vga
(or Driver "vesa") to read Driver "nvidia". Also, make sure that within the
Section "module" part of the file, you have a line that says Load "glx", and
that you comment out (put a # character at the start of the line) the lines
reading Load "GLcore" and Load "dri".
Becuase I'm not completely sure about the refresh rates I'm using, I've
added the line Option "UseEdidFreqs" "on" into the Section "Driver" part of
the XF86Config-4 file. Note that this only works with the nVidia drivers,
and not with the vesa drivers described above.

% xgterm
xgterm: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.4: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

This is a known problem with how the binary was built and RH7/8 systems.
The simplest solution is to just create a symlink to satisfy the
dependency, i.e. as 'root' do
      # cd /usr/lib
      # ln -s libncurses.so.5 libncurses.so.4

Alternatively you could recompile the system from the sources and you should
then be able to run xgterm normally.
Additionally, you may encounter another problem starting xgterm under RH8
caused by the xgterm trying to write a /var/run/utmp entry without the
proper permissions, this causes the window to appear briefly and then shut
down. The workaround is to either start it as "xgterm -ut" to disable
this utmp entry, or else change the permissions on the binary as root using
      # chown root:root xgterm
      # chmod g+s xgterm

Extinction in Different Bandpasses
----------------------------------
Assuming an R_V=3.1 extinction curve, the dust maps should be multiplied
by the value in the final column to determine the extinction in a given
passband. The standard optical-IR bandpasses are represented by the CTIO
and UKIRT transmission curves. For further details, see Appendix B of the text.

I have a 95 C280 and recently replaced my temp bulb in my cluster. It was fairly easy, and I did not pull off my steering wheel or have any specailty tools. I pulled the tweeter cover to the left of the console and then pulled the tweeter off to the side. Next, pulled off the heater duct cover(under the tweeter)-it comes out with two screws then by depressing two small clips in the bottom of the heater duct cover. I then had enough room to fit my hand behind the cluster and carefully push it out. I did however, cut a small bit of coat hanger, fashioned a small loop on one end(to fit over my thumb) and the other end I bent over in a small catch, to aid me. Once I got it pulled loose, unclipped the two connections on the back, I was able to(at the correct angle) pull the cluster free.

hope that helps,

I simply issued the command:
modprobe -r ehci-hcd
and the drive was immediately detected, mounted, and available for use.

Every time I boot I must re-issue this command for it to work again.

Not sure why removing the "ehci-hcd " does this...but it works.

3.) enter root password
4.) mkdir /mnt/external
5.) mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/external -t ntfs
6.) cd /mnt/external
7.) ls

This will mount your hard disk to the folder /mnt/external.

NOTE: The "/dev/sda1" bit varries according to your USB port. It could be "/dev/sda2" or "/dev/sdb1" etc... To find out what it is try the program "usbview". I think knoppix has usbview.

Average Ultraviolet Quasar Spectra in the Context of Eigenvector
Spectra were normalized by their own continuum flux in the wavelength range 1430¿1470, where no strong lines are observed/expected.
Composite spectra were generated by median-combining the averaged spectra of individual AGNs.
This procedure ensures that only the most typical features will be revealed and that some unusual features, such as narrow absorption (often lost in the noise), unusually strong (narrow) lines, and noise spikes, will be omitted in the composites.
A median also works better than an average when the individual spectra do not cover the same spectral region (see § 4 for details regarding line profiles of the composites).
The composites have been binned to 0.5 per resolution element and have a typical S/N ¿ 50 (see Table 1).

first: angular resolution=5.4", 20cm, nvss: resolution=45"
FIRST and NVSS both observed the sky at 20cm (1.4 GHz), but with very different spatial resolution.
FIRST has a 5.4" beam with astrometrical errors of 0.5-1", while NVSS has a 45" beam with 1-7" astrometric accuracy.
FIRST therefore distinguishes small-scale structures with accurate positions, but underestimates flux for extended sources.
NVSS has less accurate positional measurements and cannot distinguish small-scale structures,
but measures more accurate fluxes for extended sources and can find low-surface brightness objects missed by FIRST.

I have had some problems like this, too. One possibility could be a bad
dmask file, a problem I have had a couple of times. I would check the
relevant bmask files and look for a jailbar pattern at the 8-count
level. I've fixed my code again to better avoid these exposures.

If that's not it, it could be a problem with counting the frames; I've
had a few of those, too. I could take a look at it if you want.

Spitzer Space Telescope - Guaranteed Time Observer Proposal #30334
IRS Spectroscopy of Starburst-Dominated ULIRGs at 2 < z < 3

Principal Investigator: James R. Houck
           Institution: Cornell University
Co-Investigators:
Vandana Desai, Caltech

Science Category: high-z galaxies (z>0.5)
 Observing Modes: IrsMap
  Hours Approved: 34.9

Abstract:
We request 34.9 hours of Spitzer time to obtain mid-infrared IRS LL1
spectra of 16 extreme (f(24)/f(R) > 1000) infrared sources selected
from the NOAO Deep Wide-Field Survey Bootes field. Each target
displays a 1.6 micron rest-frame stellar bump indicating that 1) it
has a redshift in the range 2 < z < 3; and 2) its infrared luminosity
is primarily generated by reprocessed starlight, rather than
AGN-heated dust. These spectra will allow us to study the
mid-infrared properties of the most luminous starburst-dominated
galaxies to z=3. We will also confirm the stellar bump as an
indicator of starburst domination and calibrate the bump photometric
redshifts for extreme, high redshift sources.

Spitzer Space Telescope - Guaranteed Time Observer Proposal #105
Spectroscopic Study of Distant ULIRGs II
Principal Investigator: James R. Houck
           Institution: Cornell University
Science Category: ULIRGS/LIRGS/HLIRGS
 Observing Modes: IracMap IrsStare
  Hours Approved: 85.3

Abstract:
Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies (ULIRGs) have bolometric luminosities
of quasars but they outnumber the QSOs with same optical luminosities.
Even though several of the nearby ULIRGs have been studied extensively
many questions regarding their dust content and energetics remain, and
little is known about the more distant ones. We propose to extend our
knowledge of these objects and explore the potential evolution in
their properties with redshift by obtaining full low-res spectra of a
sample of ULIRGs with redshifts up to 0.5.

Molecular Hydrogen content in nearby galaxies: Houck, James R.

Spitzer Space Telescope - Guaranteed Time Observer Proposal #97

Molecular hydrogen content in nearby spirals

Principal Investigator: James R. Houck
           Institution: Cornell University
   Science Category: nearby galaxies (z<0.05, v_sys<15,000 km/s)
   Observing Modes: IrsStare
   Hours Approved: 2.0

Abstract:
It is believed that the ratio of molecular to atomic hydrogen remains
constant as a function of radius in late type spirals. The reason why
the former is not detected is that current methods of estimating the
molecular gas mass are based on indirect CO measurements which are
metallicity depended. If the H2 to HI ratio is constant then
molecular gas could potentially constitute a considerable fraction of
the dark matter of a galaxy. We wish to examine this hypothesis by
directly mapping the molecular hydrogen profile, using the mid-IR H2
lines, in one edge-on and one face-on spiral galaxy.

The first and foremost of these is, of course, scientific merit.
Because the committee is rather small and must cover a wide range of astrophysical expertise,
it is essential that proposals make very clear just what scientific questions will be addressed by the proposed observations.
The committee often wishes to see these goals placed in a larger context;
i.e., how these questions relate to major unresolved astrophysical questions.

The fact that the asteroid belt has such a well-defined, high concentration of asteroids suggests two things. One, that they are fragments of a planet that broke-up long ago, or two, that they are rocks that never managed to accumulate into a genuine planet.
Currently, scientists tend to favor the latter explanation.
According to Eric Chaisson and Steve McMillan, the authors of the text book "Astronomy Today", 1993 edition,
"There is far too little mass in the belt to constitute a planet, and the marked chemical differences between individual asteroids strongly suggest that the asteroids could not all have originated in a single planet.
Instead, astronomers believe that the strong gravitational field of Jupiter continuously disturbs the motions of these chunks of primitive matter, nudging and pulling at them, thereby prohibiting them from aggregating into a planet.
The existence and composition of the asteroid belt joins the general properties of the planets and their moons on our list of features that any theory of solar system formation must explain."

gravity - why weak? smeared out to 11-dim and we see left-over. If dark matters are
around us, what happens to the law of gravity?

"Neptune's south pole is currently tilted toward the Sun, just as the Earth's south pole is tilted toward sun during summer in the southern hemisphere," explains Orton. "But on Neptune the Antarctic summer lasts 40 years instead of a few months, and a lot of solar energy input during that time can make big temperature differences between the regions in continual sunlight and those with day-night variations. This is a likely factor in Neptune having the strongest winds of any planet in the solar system; sometimes, the wind blows there at more than 2,000 kilometers per hour," said Orton.

MAC tiger installation to pc:

1. Download VMWare files for patched Mac OS X Tiger Intel from your favorite torrent site. (Hint: Use the search function).
2. Copy tiger-x86-flat.img from the archive to an external USB drive (its 6gb)
3. Download Ubuntu Live CD (link) be sure you get the Live CD!!
4. Burn the ubuntu iso, stick it in your pc, and boot it! (make sure you have your bios set to boot to CD)
5. Once ubuntu boots and the gui finally comes up, hook up the USB drive you copied the 6gb image to. A window should pop up showing the contents of the drive. Take note of where its mounted. It should be /Devices/Yourdrivesvolumename
6. Open a terminal window and cd to that directory (/Devices/Yourdrivesvolumename). Do an ls to make sure you are in the right place (you should see the 6gb img file.
7. In the terminal window type:
sudo dd bs=1048576 if=./tiger-x86-flat.img of=/dev/hda
Replace hda with the correct drive! If you only have one drive, its probably hda. Thats what mine was. You are about to erase this entire drive so make sure youve got it right and make sure you want to do this! Hit enter. It takes a while took my vaio about 9 minutes.
8. When its done, remove the ubuntu disc and shut down the pc. Disconnect your usb drive. Thats it! When you power it back on, OS X should boot!
For whatever reason, mine hangs when its loading. If this happens to you, boot with the -x option (hit a button at the darwin screen when you boot your pc. enter -x and hit enter). Should work without any problems, and I dont see any restrictions being in safe mode.
Youll notice there is a login screen, and you dont know the password! This image was created by deadmoo and we can easily change his password. Reboot the machine again. Again, hit a button at the darwin screen. This time type -v and hit enter. At the command prompt screen type:
sh /bin/sh
passwd curtis
(change the password to what you like)

Install x11 to mac (http://macsingularity.org/x11/):
X11 is installed by default in Leopard (Mac OSX10.5).
It is in Tiger "Optional Installs.mpkg" on Tiger DVD and in "Packages" folder on Panther CD #3.

caution: Don't put X11.app in the dock (http://forums.macosxhints.com/showthread.php?t=80171)
edit .xinitrc to change "windows manager".

Installing IRAF on Mac (http://macsingularity.org/iraf-on-macos-x/):
Introduction

You really need 3 things to run IRAF:
* Apple's X11 (see the X11 tab at the top)
* IRAF (from the download page)
* X11IRAF (mainly xgterm)

You will run X11, run xgterm within x11, and run IRAF from the xgterm.

Getting IRAF up and running

The easiest way to install IRAF is to use the Mac OS X installers I have created.
You can find them both for Intel or for PPC from the download page
(http://macsingularity.org/downloads/).

Making the iraf user account

Step 1. Do not launch the package file just yet, you must first make the IRAF user.
IRAF requires the creation of a user on the machine named "iraf" who owns all the iraf files.
Creating the User is easy though.

Open up System Preferences and click on the Accounts Click on the + button... and set it up so.
The login picture doesn't matter of course.
Make the IRAF User an Admin by checking the box.
Click save, and you're done creating the IRAF user.

Step 2. Double-clicking the downloaded file should launch Apple¡¯s built in decompression helper program.
You¡¯ll be greeted by a folder containing a .pkg installer, the Installing PC IRAF users guide in PDF format, and a README file.
If you have already downloaded the .pkg installer from contrib as your normal login, you should probably go ahead and move it to Shared folder that¡¯s in /Users, or if that doesn¡¯t work try copying it to the Drop Box in the Iraf User¡¯s Public folder.

Step 3, Installation. Now you can log out of Mac OS X via the Apple menu and then log back in as the Iraf User,
or if you¡¯re running Panther or later use fast user switching to switch to the IRAF User.
As you log into MacOS X for the first time "as the Iraf User" things will look odd on your OS X desktop.
The dock will seem big, the background will probably be diffrent.
Find the IRAF .pkg installer, or go "download it" and double-click the .pkg file inside the folder
after you¡¯ve decompressed and expanded the archive.

You should be familiar with the MacOS X installer. Simply follow the on-screen instructions.
In MacOS 10.1 and again 10.3, when the installer is done, it will likely seem to work and then at the end say "Errors occured when installing the software, try again".
Ignore that. It should work just fine, you can check in the Finder or Terminal to see that all the files are there in /iraf.
For some reason this does not happen in Jaguar.

Now it¡¯s time to use the Terminal. You can stay logged in as ¡®iraf¡¯ for this. Launch "Terminal.app" from /Applications/Utilities, change directories to /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib/ and run the IRAF install script.

Note: The first time you run a command with sudo it¡¯ll give you a lecture on using it.
Each time you run a command with sudo it will ask for your password (not the root password.)
Only administrators can run sudo. This is why it¡¯s helpful that you make the iraf user an admin. Just to simplify this process.
% cd /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib

% sudo ./install

Follow the install scripts onscreen instructions. The script should run without any errors.
You can choose either /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin as the iraf local comands directory,
I believe /usr/bin/ is the default¡¦ this has the advantage of being in your PATH by default.

You¡¯re done! IRAF is installed. Now back to your normal login account.
You can log out of OS X as IRAF and go back to your normal account.

First Time Setup

So, this part should be familiar to you.
It¡¯s probably best to make an iraf directory in your home directory, so startig in your home directory:

% mkdir iraf
% cd iraf
% mkiraf

This makes you an iraf directory that will store your iraf parameter files and other things.
The login.cl file generated will determine your terminal type, so it will ask you to choose.
If you¡¯re going to install X11IRAF, then xgterm is probably a good choice.
If you¡¯re going to use X-Windows but not xgterm then go with xterm.
Otherwise, if you plan on just using the OS X terminal, pick vt100.

If the mkiraf step doesn¡¯t work, and you get a command not found problem,
then you need to add /usr/local/bin to your path.
Alternatively, you can pick /usr/bin when you run the iraf install script at the beginning.
For information on changing your path check out the unix page or also here (PATH=/usr/local/bin:~/bin:$PATH) on changing the path in the bash shell.
The bash shell is the shell by default for new users, so you may very well be using bash.

Now type in your iraf directory
% cl
and all should be working. IRAF is running on your Mac.
However, most users will want X11 to get the full benefits of IRAF.

or take bias frames (at the beginning and the end of each night) and build average bias frame
(master bias image or "zero" image using zerocombine)
and boxcar it to a 1*n pattern to avoid
spreading effects on hot columns and to keep only the large scale structures.

Should you decide that a zero image is worth subtracting, then do so using ccdproc:
(ref: http://banzai.as.utexas.edu/sco/how/het/pfc/pfcred/zero.html).

This is a summary of the work I did over the summer of 2000 on the PoPSIcL project. I was primarily involved in data reduction; processing and cleaning up the images from the first PoPSIcL project observing run in April. I have also done a small amount of research into the history of Intracluster Light observations and surface photometry.
(IRAF parameter settings in parantheses)

I began the summer by learning to use UNIX and IRAF, indispensible tools for observational astronomers. Later I learned HTML and produced the PoPSIcL Project web page.

The images I was working with were taken by John Feldmeier and Heather Morrison during the week of April 4th, 2000 on the 2.1m Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. Four nights of observing yielded zeroes, dome flats, focus frames, twilight flats, standards, skies, and images for four galaxy clusters: Abell 1234, 1413 , 1914 and MKW 7. The first real step in processing the images was to subtract the bias level from all the images and to trim off the overscan region. IRAF's ccdproc made short work of this, and all the frames were left as 2046x2048 images afterwards.
    (ccdproc overscan + trim + biassec=image trimsec=image)

My second task was to combine the zero frames into four Zeroes, one for each night. This was done using IRAF's zerocombine, which averaged each pixel set after rejecting the min and max pixel values. Using the four zero frames, all of the other images were zero subtracted with another pass through IRAF's ccdproc.
      (zerocombine combine=average reject=minmax)
     (ccdproc zerocor=yes zero=zeron1.fits (for example) )

After zero combination and subtraction, the only frames that were of further interest were the dark skies and the images of the galaxy custers themselves. Further data reduction steps ignore the other accessory frames.

With all of the images now leveled, trimmed, and zero subtracted, we were ready for our first attempt at flatfielding. The initial dark sky flats were created using IRAF's flatcombine tool. We made two dark sky flats, one for nights 1 and 2 and another for nights 3 and 4. Of the 23 dark skies from nights one and two, 3 were rejected (the twenty that were used are listed in /bb_data2/sar9/icl/raw/gdsky12.list ). All fifteen skies from nights three and four were used, although at least one was borderline. The now familiar ccdproc was invoked a third time to flatfield the images, night by night with the appropriate dark sky flat. After this preliminary flatfielding, we took a pause from the data reduction to visually inspect the images. I looked over each of the images from all four nights and noted any unusual brightness gradients, out-of-focus frames, or other abnormalities.
  (flatcombine)
  (ccdproc flatcor +)

Our subsequent flat-fielding attempts utilized an IRAF script provided by Denise Hurley-Keller (/bb_data2/sar9/icl/script.cl). This script used our two initial dark sky flats to produce a better dark sky flat for each night. The script's procedure is explained in more detail on the PoPSIcL project web page. Several iterations of the script yielded the net result of a pair of much improved dark sky flats (one for nights 1 and 2, another for nights 3 and 4). The "raw" images (only bias-leveled, trimmed, and zero-subtracted; not yet flatfielded) were flattened with the new dark sky flats.
    (ccdproc flatcor +)

The next step in our image reduction process was to subtract off the sky level from the cluster images. We entertained several possible methods for this important step, and finally settled on the most complex one. I examined each cluster and found two sections in each cluster image that were relatively devoid of stars and galaxies. One section was above the central cD and one was below. Using IRAf's imcopy, I cut these subsections out of each image and ran them through our spikemode program, which intelligently calculates the mode of each image section. I averaged the two subsection modes for each image, called that the sky count, and subtracted it off of the parent image.
      (imcopy)
      (imarith)

The final stage in my data reduction program was to combine the images cluster by cluster to get four composite images. Before combining, the images had to be shifted so that they shared the same coordinate system. I visually examined each of the cluster images and found 10-12 reference stars in each frame. The coordinates of these reference stars were recorded in a series of files and used with IRAF's geomap and geotran to shift the images to a common central axis.
	(geomap)
	(geotran)

With the images spatially aligned, IRAF's imcombine tool allowed me to combine them into a composite image. These four combined images are the final product of my summer's worth of image reduction. The images of clusters Abell 1413 and MKW 7 are of primary interest, mostly because they were produced with cleaner data and had more images per cluster for combination. Our images of Abell 1413 reveal what may be an arc or two from gravitational lensing. Both Abell 1413 and MKW 7 have extremely oblate and flattened envelopes and may have a significant amount of diffuse intracluster light.

The emission from stars peaks in the near infrared (1-3 microns - a micron is short for a micrometer or 0.000001 meters). Emission from atoms and molecules in interstellar gas makes up only a few percent of the infrared output of galaxies. The primary source of infrared radiation beyond 3 microns is thermal emission from dust grains heated by starlight.

To fit and subtract a sky and sky gradient the combination of imsurfit
and msccmd is used. With imsurfit use the option to fit to medians in
large blocks to remove the effects of objects.

    msccmd: q

In this example the input and output are the same, replacing the
original by the sky subtracted data, but one can create new output
files if desired. Note that x and y orders of 2 correspond to a plane
and orders of 3 correspond to a quadratic surface.

For example, if the strong nuclear force that binds together atomic nuclei had been slightly stronger or weaker, stars would have forged very little of the carbon and other elements that seem necessary to form planets, let alone life. If the proton were just 0.2 percent heavier than it is, all primordial hydrogen would have decayed almost immediately into neutrons, and no atoms would have formed. The list goes on.

AGN HOST GALAXIES AND CLUSTERING: 2009 ApJ 696 891:
For an estimate of MBH, we first determine the bulge luminosity
in the B band (LB,bul) and then scale, using the relation
of Marconi & Hunt (2003), between LB,bul and MBH.We derive
the absolute B-band magnitude of the galaxy, MB, by adding the
rest-frame 0.1(g - r) color to the evolution-corrected absolute
magnitude in the 0.1r band (Section 3.3), and then subtracting
0.1 mag for the small conversion between the 0.1g and B bands.
We then calculate LB (in L), taking the absolute magnitude of
the Sun in the B band to be 5.48.

In what follows, we use the term ¿quasar¿ somewhat loosely, as a proxy for
high-Eddington ratio accretion activity, rather than as a reference to specific
optical properties. We use the term AGN to refer to BH accretion at all levels.
