Blazar
    

Unusual extragalactic objects first discovered in 1978. Approximately 200 are currently known. These objects are highly variable radio and optical emitter which exhibit a high degree of polarization and exhibit apparent superluminal velocities. These objects are dividing into BL Lacertae objects and optically violent variables.
