Tropic of Capricorn

The latitude of the winter solstice (in the northern hemisphere), -23° 27', so named because the constellation corresponding to this position in the sky was Capricorn when the constellations were named nearly 2000 years ago. However, precession Eric Weisstein's World of Physics has resulted in a shift of the position of the Sun so that it is now in the constellation Sagittarius on the winter solstice.
