Mitscherlich, Eilhardt (1794-1863)

German chemist who discovered that compounds of a similar composition tend to crystalize together. Therefore, if compounds crystallize together, they are probably of similar structure. He stated this theory in 1819 as the Law of Isomorphism. In his investigations of tartaric acid, Mitscherlich examined the crystals and observed them to all be identical. Through happy circumstance, Pasteur prepared and observed two different forms of tartaric acid.
