American astronomer who has made numerous observations to attempt to fix the value of the Hubble constant. Eric Weisstein's World of Physics Sandage showed a major modification was necessary in the value, even after corrected by Baade since red-sensitive photographic plates indicated that some of the "stars" Hubble had identified in distant galaxies Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy were actually HII regions.
