Zermelo, Ernst (1871-1953)
    

German mathematician who formulated Zermelo's Axiom of Choice Eric Weisstein's World of Math (the "axiom of choice.", which states that given any set of mutually exclusive nonempty sets, the exists at least one set that contains exactly one element in common with each of the nonempty sets.
