Seyferts are spirals galaxies that have bright starlike cores. Seyferts have strong emission lines, and the emission lines are very broad, implying velocities from 500 to 4000 km/sec. Seyferts are classified into two types based on the width of their emission lines. Seyferts with very broad Hydrogen emission lines are called Type I, and Seyferts with more narrow Hydrogen emission lines are called Type II. Many Seyferts also have compact radio sources at their centers.
