Radiation emitted by any object with a temperature greater than absolute zero. A thermal spectrum occurs because some of the heat energy of the object is converted into photons. In general, a thermal spectrum depends not only upon the temperature, but also upon the composition of the object, its shape, its heat capacity, and so forth.
