I think everyone should go and be involved. the idea is to make sure we are a well-educated, well-conversed, and diversified graduate population. I think journal club should bring us all together so we feel comfortable talking about science, starting in a safe, unpressured environment with just us. i think we should start helping each other, that way we are well prepared for the rest of the astronomy population in an environment that is comfy. I propose an 45-60 minutes dedicated to:
- A new interesting paper- possibly from the astro coffee list at OSU since they know what they are doing or something important to the presenter
- A paper by the colloquium speaker
- New results from UVa! Any time someone publishes or is part of a project or needs to practice a talk
This should be something that is fun and beneficial to us all. We should incorporate food and drinks, and be ready for some good astro hanging out time.
