New Astronomy Course
ASTR 353: Light, from Earth to the Sky
A new interdisciplinary course on outdoor lighting and its effects on
astronomy, our culture, and the natural environment. The course will cover:
the history of lighting technology; the physics of light; lamp technologies;
environmental issues including energy efficiency, the loss of dark skies, and
the impact on flora and fauna; design of the nighttime urban environment.
