David and Nicole are finding the focal point of a lens using two lasers
This set-up utilized a lens and a reflective surface to find the focal length; a set-up that in the end failed to help us characterise the lens
Placing a ruler inside a lens clamp, David used this set-up to measure the focal length for the positive (i.e. converging) lenses
Nicole shines a light through a lens; we can see its image on the wall behind
Seen here in close-up are the lens, the clamped rules, and the light source balanced on a straight edge (used to read the distance from the lens off of the clamped ruler)
A different, perhaps more revealing, image of the same
Nicole places one of the eyeglass lenses into a lens clamp
A close-up view of the light being shown on one of the small, positive focal length lenses
In the dark, an image of one of the LEDs inside the light source being shown through a positive lens - not in focus yet
A very good image of the LEDs through a lens
Nicole in action with the light source - with the lights off, the images on the wall were always easier to see
When measuring the focal lengths of the eyeglasses we replaced the clamped ruler with a tape measure, because the focal length is longer than the ruler. You can see david in the background, helping Nicole focus the image on the wall. George is in the middle ground, pumping down the dewar for lab 3.
A clearer image of David helping with focusing
A close-up view of the reflected light from the LED lamp off of a lens

Viewed with a Green Filter, Nicole measures the first order distance between images of the laser beam sent through one of the diffraction gratings
While Nicole measures the distance between images, David holds a tape measure at three meters distance, and George directs the laser from that position
Another image of the LEDs through a lens, this one slightly out of focus
From the position of the image, looking back at the optical bench where Nicole is focusing the light

While pointing two lasers through a diverging lens, Nicole and David begin to investigate the power of this particular lens
